Sylvan Learning of Edwardsville Expands Its Facility with New Ownership

Misty Menossi and her brother, Leonard Rakers, recently purchased Sylvan Learning of Edwardsville with the intention of adding new programs to address the needs of the community. They started out by moving the business to a larger facility, then added STEM education, ACT and SAT test prep programs and an afternoon homework lab.

The center continues to offer traditional tutoring in math, reading and writing. However, Misty emphasizes that Sylvan is not just for the student who needs help to catch up. The center has many programs for students who excel in certain subjects and want additional instruction in their area of interest.

“We do a full assessment for every child that comes in,” said Misty. “Our individualized approach targets lessons based on the specific student’s needs.”

Sylvan of Edwardsville's homework labs provide a quiet, supervised environment where students can work on homework after school.

“As a mother of four, I recognize the advantage to having one-stop shopping for all of your children’s educational assistance needs,” said Misty. “That is the goal we have designed to.”
