Our tutors and staff in Suffolk and Harbour View consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Suffolk and Harbour View know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Kim
Owner/Executive Director
Owner and Executive Director for Sylvan Learning Centers of Chesapeake and Suffolk, Kim loves to partner with families to help their children reach their academic goals. With over twenty years of experience, she loves to see students inspired and engaged. She knows that the keys to academic success include a love of learning, a strong foundation, and passionate teachers. Kim received her BA in Elementary Education from John Brown University, and being a former second grade teacher, she is devoted to assisting parents with their children’s success. When she’s not at Sylvan, Kim can be found loving on her new granddaughter or cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Dodgers! Kim also loves to travel, especially to Nashville, TN, Houston, TX and Madeira, Portugal to visit family.
Morgan
Director
Morgan has been a Director with Sylvan since 2023. She began her career as a classroom teacher and is able to uniquely serve our families as she has served in both our local private and public school systems. Her favorite things about her job are cheering on our students and hearing the sighs of relief from families finally finding support. She is a Hampton Roads Native and graduate of Regent University. She lives in Chesapeake with her husband and two dogs, and when she’s not working, she’s going for walks, practicing her art or cooking skills, visiting coffee shops, or boating.
Cheryl
Director
Cheryl joined the Sylvan of Suffolk team in 2022. She has a strong background in math (and she enjoys it!) with a degree in Secondary Math Education and brings her attention to detail to our accounts and schedules. Her favorite part of Sylvan though is making meaningful relationships and helping our students gain confidence in themselves and their ability to succeed. When not at Sylvan, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to different countries – she’s even lived abroad!
Genesis
Director
Gen has been with Sylvan of Chesapeake since the fall of 2022, and now also works at the Sylvan of Suffolk. An education graduate of Regent University, she especially enjoys fostering relationships with our students who come to Sylvan struggling with academic perseverance, self-confidence, or school engagement, and seeing them walk out fully equipped and prepared for the world of education. Outside of Sylvan, Gen spends her free time with her husband and dog, and enjoys pickleball, hiking, and all the arts (dance, poetry, and music). Gen is also bilingual and speaks Spanish.
Joy
Director
Joy supports both Sylvan of Chesapeake and Sylvan of Suffolk remotely in behind-the-scenes operations, managing enrollments, overseeing the educational integrity of our programs, and managing ongoing training for our team. A graduate of the University of Missouri, she received a BA in Elementary Education. She has been with this Sylvan team since the fall of 2015 and formerly served as Director at Sylvan of Chesapeake but started her Sylvan career in Florida with the Sylvan of Pensacola in 2011. Her favorite part of her job is helping build up a Sylvan team that supports our families and having them share those joys, successes, and “great news” moments from our families. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, cat Dinah, and dog Piper.
