Carol Pope

Franchisee Owner

As Franchisee owner, Carol leads the business, marketing, & school partnerships for Sylvan of Longview & Tyler. A former high school counselor, Carol chose a career in the tutoring business because she has a desire to work with families & students in a more intimate setting to help students gain confidence, overcome their struggles, and excel academically. She studied at Baylor University & received her BA in Education. She continued her education at Amberton University & received a Masters in School Counseling & a Masters in Professional Counseling. When Carol isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her 3 children & family, enjoying the outdoors, and traveling with friends.

LaKeitha Goss

Center Director

LaKeitha is the Center Director in Tyler, TX. She works hard to ensure that customers are well taken care of and happy with their Sylvan experience. She is a long-term and loyal employee and has been with the company for nineteen years. When LaKeitha isn’t at Sylvan she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and traveling on a semi-truck to sight-see.

Holly Dunklin

Director of Education

Holly oversees the educational integrity of our programs, including the managing and training of our team of tutors in Tyler, TX. She is a former  classroom teacher of 29 years and a Sylvan tutor for two years before becoming the Director of Education. Holly brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan Learning Center of Tyler, TX. She graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and from Stephen F. Austin State University with her Master of Education in Educational Leadership. When Holly isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with family, shopping, or cooking.

Charlotte McVay

Tutor

Charlotte is a Sylvan tutor in Tyler, Tx with a gift for working with students. While Charlotte has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading or elementary math. She studied at Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with her degree in early childhood education. When Charlotte isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking or walking her dogs.

Beckie Haskell

Tutor

Beckie is a 1st grade teacher in Tyler, TX with a gift for working with kids. While Beckie has many tutoring talents, she finds her greatest joy in tutoring math and reading. She studied at the University of Texas at Tyler, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. When Beckie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading and spending quality time with her family.

Daniel Gutierrez

Tutor

Daniel is a 7th Grade ELAR teacher in Tyler, TX with a gift for working with kids. While Daniel has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in reading, writing,  and college prep tutoring. He studied at Tyler Junior College receiving an Associates in Literature and UT of Tyler with BA in English. When Daniel isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him doing anything competitive from Monopoly to soccer, cooking and traveling. Daniel’s educational philosophy is simple: build a relationship to create a continuous learner.

Henry Miller

Tutor

Henry is a Sylvan tutor in Tyler, TX with a gift for working with kids. While Henry has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in either math or social studies tutoring. He studied at the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration Finance degree. When Henry isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him reading or traveling!

Lynan Day

Tutor

Lynan is a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center of Tyler, TX. Lynan has many tutoring talents which include tutoring in reading, writing, and Spanish. She studied at East Texas State University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish/English and her Master of Education in reading/secondary education. When Lynan isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her watching Netflix or spending time with her furry friends!

Joyce Taylor

Tutor

Joyce is a Sylvan tutor in Tyler, TX with a passion for working with students. While Joyce has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading/English tutoring. She studied at the University of Texas at Austin and received her Bachelor of Arts in Government/History and English/ESL Certificate. When Joyce isn’t at Sylvan, she is spending her time reading.

Doug Lundin

Tutor

Doug is a 4th-12th grade math tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Tyler, TX. He has taught Algebra 1 & 2 and is currently teaching Math 7 and Algebra 1. Doug studied at University of Missouri-Rolla and received his Bachelor of Science in Early Education. When he isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him reading history, historical fiction, or science fiction books.

Amy Sharp

Tutor

Amy is an ELAR and Math tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Tyler, TX. She finds the greatest joy in helping students overcome their struggles. Amy studied at the University of Texas and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. When Amy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her watching mysteries or relaxing by the pool.

Sharon Cook

Tutor

Sharon is a K-12 reading tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Tyler, TX with a gift for working with students. Sharon finds the greatest joy in seeing students “light up” and in spending time with her family. She studied at the University of Houston and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. When Sharon isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading her favorite books.

Trina Sanders

Tutor

Trina is a reading, math, and language arts teacher in Tyler, TX. She has been an elementary teacher of 13 years. She studied at the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Marketing and a Master of Arts in administration. When Trina isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her traveling, reading, or doing crafts.

Anne Auer

Tutor

Anne is a teacher with over six years experience. She has taught all four grade levels of high school English, as well as Journalism and Newspaper. Anne has also taught fifth grade ELAR and Social Studies, sixth grade Reading Lab, and eight grade ELAR. She has special expertise in writing, editing, and revising. She enjoys helping students become more accomplished. Anne has a BS in Journalism from The University of Texas at Tyler, with a minor in History. When Anne is not at Sylvan, you can find her reading books, spending time with her two sons, or being the back-up human to her older son’s cat.

Todd Hague

Tutor

Todd grew up in Tyler and has been teaching History and Literature at private schools in east Texas and St. Paul, Minnesota for twenty six years. He has a degree in Christian leadership, with a minor in Education from Ecclesia College. He currently teaches English at Grace Community High School. Todd loves teaching, reading, sports, particularly baseball, and travel.

Tamika McLean

Tutor

Tamika is a middle school math teacher in Tyler, TX with a gift for working with kids. While Tamika has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading, mathematics, and college prep tutoring. She studied at the University of Notre Dame receiving a Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering and Psychology. When Tamika is not at Sylvan, you will find her traveling, reading books, hanging out with family and friends, or working at her church.

Rachel Ball

Tutor

Rachel is a senior at Texas Tech University earning a degree in Elementary Education. She has worked at Sylvan centers in Lubbock and Tyler as a tutor for almost 4 years. When she is not at Sylvan, you will find her back in Lubbock helping lead retreats for Catholic middle schoolers with other TTU students.

Michelle Shockey

Tutor

Michelle is a dyslexia in Tyler, Texas with a gift for working with kids. While Michelle has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading and english. She studied at St. Edwards University receiving a Bachelors in Language Arts. When Michelle is not at Sylvan, you will find her doing anything with her family including sports events that her daughther participates in, and also likes to read and of course watch Netflix.

Martha Baker

Tutor

Martha is a retired teacher from Livingston ISD in Texas. She is a reading, math, science, and SAT/ACT prep tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Tyler, TX. She has 10 years of teaching experience and 10 years of experience as a school administrator. She currently holds a Bachelors Degree in Business and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. When Martha is not at Sylvan, you will find her making crafts or painting.
