Our tutors and staff in Lake Wylie/Clover consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lake Wylie/Clover know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Nancy Shrewsbury
Owner & Executive Director
Nancy is a retired educator with over 20 years of experience as an elementary teacher. Nancy’s desire to continue helping children learn and succeed led her and her husband Joe to open two Sylvan Learning locations in Lake Wylie and Rock Hill, SC. Nancy received her BA in elementary education and M.Ed. concentration in reading at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. She is National Board Certified in literacy for elementary and middle education.
Laura Stratton
Tutor
Laura, a calm and compassionate retired teacher of 34 years has found her niche at Sylvan Learning. With a Master of Education from University of Virgina, Laura, has a heart dedicated and inclined to tutoring. One of her favorite things to teach is reading! If she’s not at Sylvan Learning, you will find Laura reading, quilting, and listening to meditation music.
Michael Crawford
Tutor
Michael is a former educator and coach in North Carolina with a gift for working with kids. While Michael has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in reading and advanced study skills tutoring. He studied at Belmont Abbey College where he received a Bachelor of Arts. When Michael isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him reading biographies, histories, and indulging in eye opening conversations with others.
Julie Hewlett
Tutor
Julie is an elementary and former Teacher of the Year in York, SC. Collaboration and organization are two traits she uses to paint her personality. With nearly 20 years in education, she loves helping students learn and achieve their goals. While Julie has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in beginning reading, reading, and mathematics. Julie received her degree from Penn State University. When Julie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time on the lake, hiking, and camping.
Madelynne DeAngelis
Tutor
Madelynne is a recent graduate from the University of Akron and educator in Clover School District. Madelynne received her BA in middle level language arts and social studies. Fun-loving and passionate, she enjoys fostering her students into “lightbulb” moments. Moments that bring her joy are students understanding content they’ve put hard work into learning. If she’s not at Sylvan then you will find her listening to audiobooks, music, crocheting, and DIY projects.
