Education Administrative Team
Ashley is a member of the administrative team at Sylvan of Pittsburgh and Cranberry. A former Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher. Ashley chose a career in the tutoring business because she saw how many students were struggling and did not have the support they needed. Ashley studied Elementary and Special Education at Bethany College. When Ashley isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband and dogs outdoors.
Education Administrative Team
Lora is recently retired with 34 years experience from Peters Township School District where she taught grades 2-5 as a classroom teacher and grades K-3 as the gifted support and enrichment teacher. Lora received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and elementary principal certification from the University of Pittsburgh and her master’s degree in reading and language arts from Duquesne University. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the National State Teachers of Year-Pennsylvania Chapter. In addition to teaching and learning, Lora loves to travel, swim, scrapbook, read, shop, and listen to country music.
Rachel graduated from Robert Morris University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. She is currently working toward her Master’s degree to obtain my Reading Specialist Certification from Penn West University. Rachel currently works as a Kindergarten teacher at Charleroi. Outside of teaching she enjoys spending time with her family, visiting the beach, being outside, and baking.
Jessica earned her M.Ed. and teaching certification from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2020 and was employed for 2 years as a middle school math and science teacher. Jessica went back to school for her 2nd M.Ed. from Edinboro in special education in 2022. She has been working as a special education teacher ever since. Jessica loves working at Sylvan because she enjoys working in small groups and even 1-1 with students.
Damian is a full time Computer Science teacher. He tutors a majority of are math students from SAT Prep Math to AP Calc.
Patrick earned his Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and Criminology from Virginia Tech. All of this may sound like he doesn’t have a background in tutoring math, however he has tutored math from 6th grade to Algebra for the past three years. Patrick says “Sylvan offers me a different experience with tutoring than what I have done in schools over the past few years and I see students making more progress because of it”. Patrick enjoys having the ability to work in small groups with students who want to be there is invaluable to their growth in knowledge and being able to build a rapport with students.
Shannon graduated from Slippery Rock University in May 2023 with her masters in Secondary Education in English. Shannon loves working at Sylvan because of the confidence each student has when they leave. She enjoys working with the students to help them obtain their goals, no matter how small or large they may be.
Lauren has been in the world of education for 13 years now. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Clarion University for Elementary Ed/Early Childhood, along with my M.Ed. as a Reading Specialist from Pitt. Lauren started out her education career as a Pre-K teacher for Headstart and Pre-K Counts Programs, and now am a Reading & Math Intervention Teacher for the AIU Non-Public School Program. Lauren loves working at Sylvan because she loves making a difference and helping students achieve their goals. She says its wonderful being able to work one-on-one and in small group settings with the students to help them gain the confidence they need!
Brenda is a full time math teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience. Brenda has been with Sylvan for a few years now. Brenda enjoys working at Sylvan because she gets to see students grow and help them achieve their goals.
Danielle graduated from Ohio Valley University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She is a former 2nd grade teacher as well as a former Center Director for a Sylvan Learning Center in North Carolina. Now, Danielle is raising two teenagers a 17 year old son and a 15 year old daughter. Currently, she flies the friendly skies as a flight attendant when she is not teaching at Sylvan.”I enjoy the personalized instruction that Sylvan offers in a small group setting. It is fun to watch the “light bulb” go off when a student masters a concept and be incredibly proud of themselves. I missed teaching in a small group setting. I get the best of both worlds, flying and teaching in a fun environment. “
Andrea has been teaching for ten years and currently teachs 2nd grade at the school district that she went to growing up. She has taught 2nd,4th, 5th and 6th grade. Some of this time she was teaching in Colorado and in Pennsylvania. She has also coached swimming on the side.
Andrea enjoys working at Sylvan because it allows her to help students learn outside of school. She loves learning about students interests as well as learning about their educational strengths and needs. Sylvan Learning allows her to use her skill set to help her reach even more students on their academic journey.
Lesley comes to Sylvan Learning Center as an educator with many years of teaching experience working with young children. Two of her favorite experiences are 19 years at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and 15 years at the Carnegie Science Center. She also have directed a preschool program, taught grades K-3, and tutored privately. She has a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Chatham University and Elementary Certification from the University of Pittsburgh. Lesley enjoys working at Sylvan to help children gain confidence to achieve success in school.
