Meet Our Team

As Center Director, David Sandoval leads the team for Sylvan Learning of Las Cruces. David chose a career in the tutoring business because he believes education can change individuals’ lives. David holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso and is pursuing his M.A. in Sociology at the University of New Mexico. When David is not at Sylvan, you will find him spending time with his two bulldogs and partner.

Irene oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Las Cruces. A former grade school teacher in Las Cruces, Irene brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Las Cruces. She graduated from Grand Canyon University with her master’s degree in education with a specialty in reading. When Irene isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her drinking hot tea with a book in her hand if not out and about in Las Cruces with her husband.

Daniel is a Lead Teacher at Sylvan Learning Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico with a gift for making learning fun. While he has many talents, he finds the greatest joy in sharing new and interesting science facts. He studied at NMSU, earning his BA in Elementary Education. When he isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him trying new foods and playing D&D.

Damaris Lewis is a co-lead teacher in Las Cruces, NM with a gift for working with kids. While Damaris has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading tutoring. She studied at NMSU. When Damaris isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, playing DnD, baking, and playing with her dogs.

My love of children and wanting to help them lead me to receive an education in order to teach. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education at New Mexico State University, and taught at Hatch Elementary School for eight years. After resigning from Hatch, I went back to NMSU and earned my Master’s degree in Special Education. I’ve been teaching for approximately 15 years, which includes the two years I have been teaching at Sylvan. My love for children and helping them learn new things, as well as helping them have success in their education, makes me love my job here. I’m very lucky to have the chance to have a job that I love.

I was born and raised in Las Cruces, and went to Las Cruces High School. (Go Bulldawgs!) I live with my dog Baylee, who is always making me laugh, but also challenges me every day! I have two grown daughters, one who lives with her husband and two children in a small town outside of San Antonio, Texas, and the other lives here in Las Cruces and is a pharmacist. I’m extremely proud of her; she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the age of 25.

Hello! My name is Mr. Matt. I have been teaching Math for 25 years. I currently teach Algebra II honors at Organ Mountain High School. I have been teaching at Sylvan for 15 years. I graduated from NMSU with a Masters Degree in Curriculum and instruction. I enjoy spending time with my family and pets at home. I look forward to helping your children succeed this school year. My goal is for students to gain confidence in themselves and math.
