As Director, Sarah leads our team of tutors in Matthews. A former teacher, Sarah chose a career in the tutoring business in order to provide students with the individual support they need. Sarah studied at UNC Charlotte where earned her degree in Education. When she isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her writing, as well as spending time with her family and her cats!
Brooke oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Matthews. Brooke brings a wealth of educational and professional knowledge to Sylvan. She chose a career at Sylvan because the smaller setting allows her to get to know students on a deeper level. At Sylvan, Brooke can build a relationship and comfort level that promotes confidence in students’ academic abilities. A graduate of Appalachian State, she holds a degree in Elementary Education. When she isn’t at Sylvan, she enjoys playing board games, enjoying live music and karaoke, and spending time with her cat Penelope (aka Penny).
As Regional Director, Wendy oversees operations for our centers in the Charlotte area. A former classroom teacher and administrator, Wendy chose a career in the tutoring business because she wanted a more personal experience with the children. She obtained her Master’s in Educational Leadership at the University of GA. When Wendy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her walking her dog at the park or watching UGA football.
Cindy has been an integral part of our Sylvan team since 2004. As our Admissions Director, Cindy introduces parents to Sylvan, and we don’t know what we would do without her! When Cindy isn’t at Sylvan, she is training her dog, spending time with her family and friends, and looking forward to trips to the beach.
Lindsey is a middle teacher in the CMS school district with a gift for working with kids. While she has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in language arts and social studies tutoring and handles many administrative duties. Lindsey has traveled extensively through the world and brings a great deal of that knowledge with her to Sylvan.
Josh is a exceptional tutor working mostly with our math students. He is a recent grad of Western Carolina University with a degree in Applied Math. He is currently studying to be an Actuary. Joshua is an avid reader and loves all things STEM related.
Thein is a tutor at our Sylvan in Matthews. While Thein has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math and science tutoring. She is a Computer Science major at UNC Charlotte. In her free time, Thein loves being active, including biking, swimming, and going to new places with friends and family. She also enjoys crafts such as drawing, building blocks, and miniatures!
Danielle is a tutor at Sylvan in the Matthews area of Charlotte, NC, with a gift for working with kids. While she excels at working with students of all ages, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring math and science. Danielle holds a B.A. in biology, has a minor in Physics, and earned a graduate certificate in Middle Grades Science Education. In her free time, she enjoys being involved in her local church, helping with kids’ camps, traveling, and being active!
A tutor in our Sylvan of Matthews, Charlotte location, Ms. Joann has been a classroom teacher for almost 30 years! She loves to see her students light up when they learn a new concept. Ms. Joann attended UNC Charlotte earning both a B.A. and Masters in Elementary Education. She is currently teaching kindergarten at Pinewood Elementary. Her favorite things to do are travel, read, watch Hallmark movies, and cuddle with her cats.
Kurt is a dedicated and experienced educator with over 30 years of combined experience as both an assistant principal and as a teacher in middle and high school. Kurt is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing. He has three children who are a high school math teacher, an oncology nurse, and an environmental scientist. He is also the proud “Opa” of four grandsons, ages 4, 3, 2, and 1. Kurt has been an active member of New City Church for 34 years, and has a passion for education!
