Meet Our Team

Elizabeth

Center Director

As Center Director, Elizabeth leads the Oak Lawn team, focusing on setting goals for personal learning, educational outreach, and putting our families at ease, as well as motivating children to succeed and thrive. She graduated from the University of Virginia and spent over 20 years in Fortune 50 companies as a Finance and Project Management leader before coming to Sylvan.  When Elizabeth isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her playing tennis, walking with a friend, and when she can squeeze it in – traveling!

As the Director of Education, Evie helps ensure that we are delivering high quality educational programming to all of our students and that we are working with families and school teachers to best address each student’s needs. Evie received her BA and MEd from the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign  to Sylvan and has been taught for 9 years before coming to Sylvan.  When she isn’t at Sylvan, Evie loves to dance and go for long walks.

Bernard

Tutor

Mr. Bernard has been teaching and tutoring for over 20 years. He graduated with a BBA from Sul Ross University and received his Masters in Education from Concordia University. He loves working with students across all grades and subjects, but his favorite subject to teach is high school math. When he’s not at Sylvan, Mr. Bernard enjoys spending time with his dog, and playing pool, ping pong, and board games.

Chelita

Educational Operations Assistant

Chelita oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Oak Lawn.  Chelita has been a Sylvan employee since December 2019, and brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Oak Lawn. She graduated from American College of Education with a Masters of  Educational Leadership. When Chelita is not at Sylvan, you’ll find her coaching /mentoring new teachers and spending time with friends.

Melissa

Tutor

Ms. Melissa has been teaching and tutoring for 13 years. She has her BA in History from Kalamazoo College as well as her PhD in History and Masters in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Melissa’s favorite subjects to teach are English and Social Studies and when she is not at Sylvan, she can be found quilting and reading.

Christine

Tutor

I graduated from St.Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international Studies and Masters Degree in Education. I taught history for 28 years at Mother McAuley High School and retired in 2016. My leisure time consists of reading, taking four-mile walks, or tending to the crops in my garden.
