Our tutors and staff in San Luis Obispo consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in San Luis Obispo know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Natalie
Director of Education
As the Director of Education and a Teacher, Natalie enjoys sharing her love for learning while connecting with students and families. She understands that each student has unique needs and works to craft individualized lesson plans that keep kids inspired and excited to learn. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Cal Poly. In her free time, you can find Natalie hiking, crafting, and exploring the beautiful outdoors of San Luis Obispo.

Aidan
SAT Prep Teacher
Aidan is a student-athlete at Cal Poly who is enthusiastic about providing SAT & ACT Prep Sessions. Today is the perfect time to sign up for the SAT Practice Test!

A former volunteer tutor, Aidan loves working with kids and challenging them to push themselves past their limits academically. Outside Sylvan, you’ll find Aidan running around town or in the woodshop working on a new project.

Camille
Teacher
Camille brings a strong foundation in elementary education to Sylvan. With experience as a paraeducator and instructional aide, she is committed to creating a supportive environment where learners can thrive. Currently a graduate student in Cal Poly’s Teacher Education Program, Camille has a particular passion for literacy and enjoys helping young readers grow in confidence and fluency. When she’s not teaching, Camille loves playing soccer, practicing guitar, and having fun outside.

Arav
Lead Teacher
Arav’s talent shines when we works with students studying advanced math and science, and in both small group and 1:1 SAT Prep courses. Arav is currently studying at Cal Poly, completing his undergraduate degree in Engineering. Previously, Arav worked as a teacher in after-school elementary school courses leading him to tutor at Sylvan while specializing in advanced mathematics. When Arav isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him pursuing his hobbies like art, photography and hiking, as well as enjoying movies and TV shows.

Terry
Academic Administrator
As Academic Administrator, Terry enjoys talking with families and discovering how Sylvan can best meet each student’s needs, by crafting tailored, individualized learning plans – then, celebrating student growth! He is also a certificated sixth grade teacher, going into his fifth year teaching locally. He received his multiple subject teaching credential from CalstateTEACH, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from California State University, Chico. In his free time, Terry enjoys spending time with his dog, playing guitar, and discovering new food around SLO County.

Emma
Teacher
Emma is a 4th year Civil Engineering student at Cal Poly. She enjoys working on projects that combine problem-solving with creativity, and she’s passionate about sharing what she learns with others in collaborative settings. With strong skills in mathematics, Emma is dedicated to building problem-solving abilities, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of learning in every student she works with. Outside of school, she loves playing piano and spending time outdoors, whether that’s at the beach or out on a hike.

Max
SAT Prep Teacher
Max is a student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, studying Electrical Engineering. Formerly a tutor at Allan Hancock College, he has experience teaching Algebra, Calculus, and general Mathematics, as well as sciences like Physics and Chemistry. Max enjoys teaching in a classroom and also with small groups or individuals, which is ideal for Sylvan’s SAT Prep Course and SAT Prep Sessions on Saturdays. When not at Sylvan, Max likes to work with electronics, as well as going outdoors for hiking and camping.

Anna
Academic Administrator
As an Academic Administrator, Anna enjoys interacting with families and helping identify how Sylvan can best support each student’s academic journey. She brings enthusiasm and care to every interaction, ensuring that each learner receives a personalized path to success. Anna is currently pursuing a degree in Business at Cal Poly, specializing in Finance. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and exploring new spots around San Luis Obispo.

Areliz
Teacher
Areliz is a dedicated third-year student at Cal Poly SLO, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Child Development. As a first-generation Latina college student, Areliz brings a unique perspective and commitment to educational excellence. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she leverages her bilingual skills to connect with diverse populations. Her experience spans multiple educational roles, including teacher’s assistant for Cal Poly’s Upward Bound Program, office assistant for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and College Corps tutor for K-12 students. Areliz also volunteers with local summer camps and works with children with learning differences. Her strong literacy skills and understanding of developmental psychology enable Areliz to create nurturing learning environments.

Lauren
Teacher
Lauren is a recent Cal Poly graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Child Development and is currently working toward her teaching credential. She has experience teaching students of all ages in English, Art, Science, and Outdoor Education. Her opportunities to teach and learn have shaped her philosophy that education can be found everywhere. Having worked in a wide variety of learning environments, Lauren supports student growth with an understanding that learning is an ongoing, individualized process. In her free time, she enjoys creating art, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family and new puppy!

Eunice
Teacher
Eunice is a 4th-year student at Cal Poly SLO, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Child Development and working toward a future Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She has experience as a private tutor and loves supporting students as they grow in confidence and skills. With many years of experience as a Taekwondo master, she enjoys teaching kids of all ages and is passionate about creating encouraging, uplifting learning environments. Eunice enjoys both learning and teaching, and she strives to help students discover their strengths and approach academics with optimism. In her free time, she likes to go on runs, crochets, tries new foods, and spends time at the beach.

Jaedyn
Teacher
Jaedyn is a graduate student at Cal Poly studying English. She is very passionate about British Victorian and ancient literature, specifically, and is also working towards a certificate in creative writing. Jaedyn also has experience with homeschool students and was homeschooled herself until high school. Having worked as a tutor at multiple colleges, she has experience working with students on writing and reading assignments, both individually and in groups. She is very passionate about helping others find joy and build confidence in reading and writing. In her free time, Jaedyn enjoys reading, cooking, and baking.

Emily
Community Relations
As Director of Community Relations, Emily brings Sylvan Learning to local families across San Luis Obispo County. A non-profit Executive Director and elementary school classroom teacher, Emily values quality education and support for youth and families. She has a Masters degree in Education and multiple subject (elementary school) plus secondary science teaching credentials from Antioch University Santa Barbara, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Systems from the University of California, San Diego. When Emily’s not at Sylvan, she enjoys hiking, swimming, the beach, and most of all, being a mom to her four boys!

Robbie
Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, Robbie leads Sylvan Learning across San Luis Obispo County. A former Director of Operations, Robbie enjoys providing quality education for local youth through scaling systems. He has teaching credentials in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo’s Department of Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Ecology, Evolution, & Marine Biology Department. When Robbie’s not at Sylvan, he enjoys playing musical instruments and frequent trips to the beach with his wife and four young boys.
