Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Westman know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Joshua Malyk
Owner
Joshua is a young entrepreneur who moved to the Brandon area in late 2021. Joshua has a child and youth care certificate with many years working with youth at risk. J saw the need for more educational support in Westman and decided to open up a familiar face that he thought would benefit young people. Prior to J moving to Brandon, he was a teacher for Sylvan in Winnipeg. When J was young, he struggled with his bilingual, he too attended Sylvan for extra support. J believes in the Sylvan method and believes that it would help any young person that is struggling or wanting to advance their learning. In Joshua’s down time, he enjoys reading, playing guitar or relaxing with his dog Lovey.
Deborah Malyk
Director
Deborah Malyk is a former MB Government health worker. Deborah chose to begin her Sylvan journey because she knows that it works, having her own child in Sylvan many years ago. Deborah knows what it takes for a parent to have to decide that their child needs help. Deborah is personable and caring, she loves when a child “just gets it” and the look on their face in that moment. Deborah enjoys the simple pleasures in small moments and spending time with her family, friends and dog Zoe.
