Tara Rose, B.A., B.Ed.

Executive Director

As Centre Director, Tara leads day to day operations for Sylvan of Mid-South Calgary. A former substitute teacher, Tara chose a career in the tutoring business because of the time she spent as a part-time tutor at the Sylvan in her home province of PEI. There she was able to see first hand just how effective our programs can be. She studied at the University of Prince Edward Island. When Tara isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family & friends.

Fiona Johnson, B.A.

Executive Director

Fiona is one of the co-owners of Sylvan of Mid-South Calgary, and has worked with the centre since 2010. Having obtained a teaching degree in England, she joined her family in Alberta and Calgary has now been home for several years. With a specialism in Early Years Education, she enjoys working with the younger students, but also enjoys teaching elementary math. She enjoys working on finding new ways to help students overcome challenges in their programs and ensuring academic success for everyone who comes in to the centre. When Fiona isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her crocheting, baking, or gardening.

Emma Bennett, B.A.

Director of Education

Director

Emma is the Director of Education at Sylvan Learning with seven years of experience in education. She holds a degree in Global Development Studies and has conducted research in Ghana on gender equity in schools, shaping her focus on inclusive learning environments. At Sylvan, Emma ensures learning plans are tailored to students’ needs, helping them thrive with confidence. Driven by a passion for student success, she fosters a supportive and growth-oriented atmosphere while prioritizing continuous learning and collaboration with her team to drive meaningful educational outcomes. When not at Sylvan, Emma enjoys camping and spending quality time with loved ones.
