Louisiana has set aside funding for your child’s tutoring.
Three state programs can help cover the cost of personalized reading and math support. Sylvan is an approved provider for all of them.

Steve Carter Education Program
The Steve Carter Education Program provides eligible families with a $1,500 digital voucher per school year to use toward high-quality literacy and math tutoring. Sylvan is an approved provider — meaning if your child qualifies, your voucher can go directly toward a personalized Sylvan tutoring program.
Tutoring must take place after school hours, in person or virtually, through an approved provider. Sessions are built around exactly what your child needs, not a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
- Enrolled in a Louisiana public school (K–12)
- Performing below proficiency in reading and/or math
- Gather your child’s LASID number from their school — you’ll need it to apply.
- Apply through the Louisiana Tutoring Initiative portal at louisianatutoringinitiative.com.
- If approved, select Sylvan as your tutoring provider through the portal.
- We start with a FREE assessment and build a plan targeted to exactly where your child needs to grow.
LA GATOR Scholarship Program
Louisiana’s first Education Savings Account (ESA) gives eligible families over $5,190 per year to spend on approved educational services — including personalized tutoring at Sylvan. Unlike traditional voucher programs, an ESA puts the decision in your hands.
Families manage spending through a platform called Odyssey, where Sylvan is listed as an approved provider. Once your account is approved, you can apply funds directly toward your child’s Sylvan program.
- Louisiana resident enrolled in K–12
- Entering kindergarten
- Previously participating in LA GATOR or Louisiana Scholarship Program
- Meeting household income guidelines
- Check eligibility and apply at lagator.la.gov during the annual application window.
- Once approved, log into the Odyssey portal and select your local Sylvan center as your provider.
- Your Sylvan center will reach out to schedule your child’s FREE assessment.
- We build a personalized learning plan and start putting your LA GATOR funds to work.
Accelerate: High-Dosage Tutoring
Louisiana has invested over $30 million to bring high-dosage tutoring into the school day for K–5 students performing below proficiency in reading and math. Funding is allocated to districts based on the number of eligible students, and districts select from a state-approved vendor list to deliver the program.
Sylvan is a state-approved Accelerate provider. Our structured, small-group tutoring model meets all program requirements — including session frequency, group size, and progress monitoring — while giving every student the individualized attention they need to move forward.
- K–5 students below proficiency in reading and/or math
- Minimum 3 sessions per week, ~30 minutes each
- At least 10 weeks in duration
- Maximum 1:4 tutor-to-student ratio
- Ongoing progress monitoring and reporting
- Confirm your district’s Accelerate allocation through the LDOE eGMS system.
