Nancy is a retired educator with over 20 years of experience in elementary education. Nancy’s desire to continue helping children learn and succeed led her and her husband Joe to open two Sylvan Learning locations in Lake Wylie and Rock Hill, SC. Nancy received her BA in elementary education and M.Ed. concentration in reading at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. She is National Board Certified in literacy for elementary and middle education.

Lindsay Bueno

Tutor

Lindsay is a teacher in Rock Hill, SC with a gift of patience and thinking outside the box when working with children. While Lindsay has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math, science, and college-prep tutoring. She studied at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. When Lindsay isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her traveling, reading mystery novels, spending time with her family and three nieces.

Debra is a retired chemist and former teacher middle school teacher in South Carolina. With a love for science and kids she wants to use her gifts to strengthen STEM in our local community. While Debra has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math, science, robotics, and coding tutoring. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. When Debra isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, cooking, and watching science fiction.

Chasity Agurs

Chasity Agurs, a graduate from the University of South Carolina double majored in Biochemistry and Spanish. Hitting the ground running, Chasity considers herself attentive and determined. She is eager to help students achieve their College Prep and academic goals. If Chasity is not at Sylvan Learning you can find her journaling, reading, and indulging in anything that relates to science.

Craigshon Harrington

Craigshon is a dedicated and compassionate tutor with extensive experience supporting K-12 students in reading, writing, math, study skills, executive functioning, and standardized test preparation. He has also coordinated closely with teachers and tutors as a team leader to foster collaboration and improve learning outcomes. Craigshon is completing a BA in English with a concentration in secondary education at Winthrop University, combining his love of deep love of writing with a strong foundation in pedagogy. He enjoys working with both students and adults, helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. If he’s not at Sylvan, you can find him watching sitcoms, studying literature, or listening to music.

Mitch graduated from Liberty University with a degree in Elementary Education. He has been trained in several programs including Orton-Gillingham, Reading Mastery, Lifelong Readers, and DIBELS. He currently teaches 3rd grade in a private school in Waxhaw.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Genetics from Ohio State, and a Master of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina. Andrew has a wide range of knowledge in math and science. He is a very experienced tutor who is skilled at teaching math and science from elementary through college. He also has tutoring experience working at Sylvan locations in other cities.

Dr. Edward G. Smith

Edward Smith

Dr.

Dr. Edward G. Smith, currently retired, has over 40 years of experience in various teaching, research, and administrative roles and has served in higher education from the level of Instructor to Dean. He has been Vice President of Research and Sponsored Programs, Dean of the School of Math and Science, Chair of Biology & Chemistry Departments, Biology Secondary Education Coordinator, and Visiting Scientist at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, He has served on and chaired multiple institutional and regional committees.

Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Cardiovascular Physiology from Eastern Virginia Medical School and an MA in Biology Education from Hampton University.  He has completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Center for Sleep and Respiratory Neurobiology in Neurogenic Sleep Apnea and several NIH Molecular Biology and Genomics Workshops. He also has training in several Remote Information Management Systems.

Dr. Smith has done extensive Biomedical and Higher Education research. In 2001 he was awarded a National Research Council Fellowship and in 2007 he was a recipient of the United States Environmental Protection Agency Advances in Science and Technology Achievement Award; He received the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award in 2015; He has been Advisor of the Year and Faculty of the Year at multiple institutions. He has published in several peer-reviewed journals and is a published Author/Illustrator of Children’s Math and Science books.
