Our tutors and staff in Huntersville consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Huntersville know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Heather Hocking
Director
Heather is a retired educator with thirty years of classroom experience teaching in Cabarrus County. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from West Virginia University. During her teaching career, she taught middle school and high school science courses.
Heather is excited to be at Sylvan and loves helping students improve academically for long-term success. When she is not at Sylvan, you will find her in the gym working out, spending time with her family and their four pets, going for a hike, or traveling.
Wendy Schuster
Regional Director
As Regional Director, Wendy oversees our centers in Charlotte – Mooresville, Huntersville, Ballantyne, Matthews, & Union County. A former classroom teacher and administrator, Wendy chose a career in the tutoring business because she wanted a more personal experience with the children. She obtained her Master’s in Ed. Leadership at University of GA. When Wendy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her walking her dog at the park or watching UGA football.
Cindy Presnell
Admissions Director
Cindy has been an integral part of our Sylvan team since 2004. As our Admissions Director, Cindy introduces parents to Sylvan, and we don’t know what we would do without her! When Cindy isn’t at Sylvan, she is training her dog, spending time with her family and friends, and looking forward to trips to the beach.
Sarah Chambers
Tutor
Sarah relocated to North Carolina after a thirty-year career as a teacher, Director of Special Education, and Elementary Principal at various schools in the Buffalo, NY area. Sarah has teaching certifications in Reading and Special Education and holds a Master’s in Education from Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. Aside from her love of teaching and working with children, Sarah enjoys her role as a mom to her teenage daughter, Liv. She also loves movies, reading, traveling, and trying new recipes.
Manaiyah Raybon
Tutor
Manaiyah is a senior at UNC Charlotte pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. Through her academic journey, she developed a strong passion for math and began tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center to help students who, like her younger self, may have struggled with the subject. Through her teaching experience, she has expanded her skills to support students across a variety of subjects. Manaiyah enjoys creating a supportive environment where students can build confidence and understanding. Outside of tutoring, she spends her time hiking and caring for her plants.
