Meredith Freeman

Executive Director

Meredith joined the Sylvan Learning team in 2001 and is the Executive Director at Sylvan Learning  in Burlington, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, NC.  She comes to Sylvan with a degree in Psychology from UNC Wilmington. She has held a variety of positions throughout her Sylvan career and decided in 2003 to make Burlington her home. Her favorite thing about her position is watching each student’s confidence grow and changing the “I can’t” attitude to “I can.”
Meredith’s favorite day at Sylvan…When a parent came up to me and asked me for a hug because we had done with her child something she thought was impossible.

Christina Fisher

Regional Director

Christina joined Sylvan in 2015 as a Center Director with 13 years of teaching experience. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, K-12 Reading Certification, and a Master’s in Instructional Technology. Christina served in many leadership roles as an educator but is most proud of being nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science. She has a lifelong love of teaching and her passion for education is rewarded by Sylvan’s success stories.

Rosalyn Lockett

Center Director

As Center Director, Rosalyn leads the center and manages the tutoring staff and programs for Sylvan of Greensboro.  A former tutor, with a background in Educational Technology and State and Local Government/K-12 Sales, Rosalyn is passionate about helping students gain a love for learning, and preparing for academic success. She has her masters from University of Maryland, University College and undergraduate degree from Hampton University. When Rosalyn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her traveling with her family, friends, or spending time with her dog Rocky.

Amy Tucker

Director of Education

Amy has been a member of the Sylvan team since she started as a tutor in January of 2011. She took on the role of Program Manager in February of 2012 and loves being able to see the growth in her students every day. Amy graduated from Elon University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2009. Prior to joining the Sylvan team, she worked as a substitute teacher for Guilford and Alamance County Schools. In her free time Amy enjoys sewing and doing other craft projects or sitting down to read a good book. She is rewarded by hearing her students make connections between what they are learning at Sylvan and what they are working on at school.

Meg Byrum

Director of Education

Meg joined the Greensboro team as a tutor in 2022, and took on the role of Director of Education in 2023. Meg oversees the educational integrity of our programs, through training and managing our instructional staff, ensuring robust instructional experiences to ensure high-quality and personal customer experiences. Meg graduated from Haverford College with a degree in English and taught in first and second-grade classrooms prior to joining the Sylvan team. Her favorite part of being at Sylvan is helping students who have struggled in school to regain their confidence and become excited about learning again. When not at Sylvan, Meg enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her cat.

Cayla Johnson

Part-Time Tutor

Cayla is a part-time tutor at Sylvan Learning of Greensboro and a senior at North Carolina A&T State University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Passionate about education, Cayla enjoys helping students build confidence in their learning and reach their academic goals. Outside of tutoring, she enjoys taking walks in the park, drawing, and expressing her creativity through short stories and poetry.

Daniel Southard

Daniel Southard

Part-Time Tutor

Daniel has been a dedicated tutor for over five years, working with students from K-12 through college. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology from Appalachian State University and a minor in Chemistry. Daniel has spent four years as a writing, English, and ESL tutor at the community college level, where he developed a strong passion for language and literacy. In addition to English, he enjoys tutoring math and science, drawing on his academic background. Daniel is known for his patient, respectful, and encouraging approach, always aiming to help students build confidence, master concepts, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Part-Time Tutor

Brian, is a Math Education Specialist, with 17 years of dedicated teaching experience in North Carolina; he has made a significant impact in the field of education. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Brian earned his undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Math and Science, solidifying his passion for fostering young minds in these critical areas. He furthered his expertise by earning a Master’s degree in Math Education from Walden University.

When Brian is not teaching or mentoring, Brian enjoys the simple pleasures of life—such as enjoying a comforting dish of penne pasta with carbonara sauce from Elizabeth’s Pizza, a local favorite. As an avid reader, he finds inspiration in Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched The World by Vicki Myron, a story that resonates with his belief in the power of connection, empathy, and the small acts that can create lasting change.

Brian is passionate about helping his students develop a deep understanding of math and science, while also nurturing their curiosity and love for learning. Through his work, he strives to make a difference in both the classroom and the community.

Dr. Eric O'Rear

Part-Time Tutor

Meet Dr. Eric O’Rear. Eric, a veteran Sylvan tutor from a Northern VA Sylvan center, holds a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University  and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. He has over 15 years of experience tutoring K-12 and college students in various mathematics and economics courses. Eric has always been passionate about tutoring; he sees it as an opportunity to share knowledge, help others succeed, and build long-lasting relationships with students. Eric is a father of two and enjoys spending time with his kids, bodybuilding, watching basketball, and cooking.
