Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Greensboro know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Meredith Freeman
Executive Director
Meredith joined the Sylvan Learning team in 2001 and is the Executive Director at Sylvan Learning in Burlington, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, NC. She comes to Sylvan with a degree in Psychology from UNC Wilmington. She has held a variety of positions throughout her Sylvan career and decided in 2003 to make Burlington her home. Her favorite thing about her position is watching each student’s confidence grow and changing the “I can’t” attitude to “I can.”
Meredith’s favorite day at Sylvan…When a parent came up to me and asked me for a hug because we had done with her child something she thought was impossible.

Christina Fisher
Regional Director
Christina joined Sylvan in 2015 as a Center Director with 13 years of teaching experience. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, K-12 Reading Certification, and a Master’s in Instructional Technology. Christina served in many leadership roles as an educator but is most proud of being nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science. She has a lifelong love of teaching and her passion for education is rewarded by Sylvan’s success stories.

Rosalyn Lockett
Center Director
Director
As Center Director, Rosalyn leads the center and manages the tutoring staff and programs for Sylvan of Greensboro. A former tutor, with a background in Educational Technology and State and Local Government/K-12 Sales, Rosalyn is passionate about helping students gain a love for learning, and preparing for academic success. She has her masters from University of Maryland, University College and undergraduate degree from Hampton University. When Rosalyn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her traveling with her family, friends, or spending time with her dog Rocky.

Meg Byrum
Director of Education
Meg joined the Greensboro team as a tutor in 2022, and took on the role of Director of Education in 2023. Meg oversees the educational integrity of our programs, through training and managing our instructional staff, facilitating robust instructional experiences to ensure high-quality and personal customer experiences. Meg graduated from Haverford College with a degree in English and taught in first and second-grade classrooms prior to joining the Sylvan team. Her favorite part of being at Sylvan is helping students who have struggled in school to regain their confidence and become excited about learning again. When not at Sylvan, Meg enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her cat.

Cayla Johnson
Part-Time Tutor
Cayla is a part-time tutor at Sylvan Learning of Greensboro and a senior at North Carolina A&T State University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Passionate about education, Cayla enjoys helping students build confidence in their learning and reach their academic goals. Outside of tutoring, she enjoys taking walks in the park, drawing, and expressing her creativity through short stories and poetry.

Daniel Southard
Part-Time Tutor
Daniel has been a dedicated tutor for over five years, working with students from K-12 through college. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology from Appalachian State University and a minor in Chemistry. Daniel has spent four years as a writing, English, and ESL tutor at the community college level, where he developed a strong passion for language and literacy. In addition to English, he enjoys tutoring math and science, drawing on his academic background. Daniel is known for his patient, respectful, and encouraging approach, always aiming to help students build confidence, master concepts, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Deja Kenion
Part-Time Tutor
Deja Kenion is a UNCG alumna and graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies. After graduating from UNCG in 2021, Deja moved to Clemson, SC to obtain her master’s degree in Student Affairs from Clemson University, where she began working in academic advising. Deja is currently working towards a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology. Concerning tutoring, Deja enjoys helping students with reading. Deja’s favorite part about tutoring is being able to assess each student’s learning needs and strive to meet them.
