Stronger Students, Stronger Communities: Partnering with Michigan Schools Through High-Dosage Tutoring
Every student deserves the opportunity to build strong academic skills, grow in confidence, and experience success in the classroom. Achieving that goal takes a community effort—and the right support can make a lasting difference.
That’s why Sylvan Learning is proud to partner with Michigan schools as an approved vendor for the state’s Section 35P High-Dosage Tutoring Grant. This opportunity allows schools to bring additional academic support directly to students while working toward stronger outcomes for their communities.
A Local Partner with a Proven Approach
Locally owned by George and Jessica Rollins, Sylvan Learning brings more than 45 years of experience and a history of helping students strengthen their skills and confidence. We understand that every school community is unique, and every student has their own learning needs.
Our goal is to work alongside educators and school leaders to provide meaningful support that complements classroom instruction. We bring the same trusted programs families experience in our Sylvan centers directly to students in school settings, making it easier to connect children with additional learning opportunities where they already spend their days.
Flexible Tutoring That Works for Schools and Students
We know school schedules are busy, and finding the right time for tutoring matters. Sylvan programs can be delivered before school, during the school day, or after school, giving schools flexibility to build tutoring into their existing schedules and meet the needs of their students.
Our approach combines small-group instruction with individualized learning plans. With a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio, students benefit from the encouragement and interaction of a small group while following their own personalized program.
Building Reading Skills Through Hands-On Learning
Strong reading skills are essential for success across every subject. At Sylvan, our reading programs take a hands-on approach, that helps students actively engage with the material rather than simply listen and repeat.
Our scaffolded lessons are designed to help students build understanding step by step. Students receive instruction and guidance as they learn new concepts, then practice applying those skills independently. This gradual progression helps them develop the confidence and ability to use what they have learned in their regular classrooms.
The goal is not simply to help students complete a tutoring lesson. It is to help them develop lasting skills they can carry into their everyday learning.
Working Together to Make a Difference
High-dosage tutoring is an opportunity to give students focused support while strengthening the work already happening in Michigan classrooms. By combining educators’ knowledge of their students with Sylvan’s structured, individualized approach, schools can create additional opportunities for growth.
We believe the strongest partnerships begin with listening, collaboration, and a shared commitment to student success. We welcome the opportunity to work with school administrators and educators to explore how Sylvan’s programs can support their goals and make the most of available grant funding.
At Sylvan Learning, we are proud to be locally owned, invested in our communities, and committed to helping students reach their potential.
When schools, families, and community partners work together, students benefit. Let’s work together to help Michigan students build the skills, confidence, and foundation they need to succeed.
