Our tutors and staff in Schaumburg consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Schaumburg know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Jill T
Regional Director of Education
Jill has been part of the Sylvan family since 2004. She joined the Sylvan Lake Zurich team in 2019 after transferring from another center and has worked across both our Schaumburg and Lake Zurich locations since 2023. As Regional Education Director, Jill oversees the educational quality of our programs, meets with families for conferences, and supports our tutors through training and development.
Jill holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education. With experience teaching in both elementary and middle school settings, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to helping students succeed. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan is seeing students grow in confidence and pride as they reach new academic goals.
Ann S
Assistant Director
Ann has been part of the Sylvan family since 2019, when she first joined as a Teacher’s Assistant. After earning her degree in History and Social Science Education from Illinois State University, she returned to Sylvan in 2025 as both a Teacher and Assistant Director at our Schaumburg center. Through her clinical experiences and student teaching at Larkin High School in Elgin, IL—where she taught economics and sociology—Ann developed a passion for supporting students of all ages and backgrounds.
At Sylvan, Ann loves getting to know each student and helping them build confidence in their learning. She believes every student deserves the right resources and support to succeed.
Outside of Sylvan, Ann enjoys going to the movies, seeing live musicals, and making jewelry. A fun fact about her—she was part of an improv group in college called Playback Theatre!
Tara L
Lead Teacher
Tara is a dedicated science and math teacher with a talent for connecting with learners of all ages. While she enjoys teaching many subjects, her greatest passion is helping students explore and understand the sciences. Tara holds multiple degrees in science and education and brings both expertise and enthusiasm to every lesson.
When she’s not at Sylvan, Tara loves spending time with family and friends—and her dog, Coco, is never far from her side!
Jennifer
Lead Teacher
Jen has been passionate about education for more than 20 years. She has taught a variety of grade levels, including fourth and sixth grade, and currently teaches reading to first graders. Since joining Sylvan of Schaumburg in 2006, Jen has loved helping students grow in confidence and discover the joy of learning.
Her greatest passion is teaching and sharing her love of reading with her students. Jen’s goal is to make learning fun and engaging for every child she works with. Outside of Sylvan, she enjoys spending time with her pets, cooking, and singing.
Beck F
Teacher
Beck is a certified teacher who tutors students in reading, writing, study skills, and SAT/ACT preparation at Sylvan. They are passionate about helping students discover both the fun in learning and the real-world value of their education. Beck enjoys working with learners of all ages and believes that with individualized support and encouragement, every student can achieve success.
Outside of Sylvan, Beck loves exploring museums, getting lost in a good book, and playing the bassoon.
