Meet Our Team

Ms. Heather oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Yorba Linda, CA.  A former Director of the ESL (English as a Second Language) Program at the ISB International School of Basel in Bottmingen, Switzerland, and teaching English at Wall Street School of English, Heather brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Yorba Linda, CA.  She graduated from Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology with honors, her Teaching Credential, and an M.A. in Education.  She also received her B.A. in Art from CSULB.  When Heather isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her enjoying the arts, foreign languages, travel, and the great outdoors.

Minerva has been serving with Sylvan Learning of Yorba Linda since 2020 as the Assistant Center Director. With a background in Banking and Finance and experience as a preschool assistant teacher, she leads the day-to-day operations, ensuring the Center and staff have the support they need. She is passionate about helping students grow in skills and confidence, and is excited to see what Sylvan can do for your child!

Mr. Toby is a gifted Mathematics/STEM tutor specializing in AP Chemistry, AP Physics,  Biology, AP Macroeconomics, and Mandarin Chinese. We are proud to have him in our Yorba Linda, CA learning center! Toby goes above and beyond for our students and sees their progress on a daily basis as extremely rewarding. Toby received his Bachelor of Science in Poli Sci/ Data Analytics from UCSD. He finds the staff very supportive, nice, and affable within a team-minded environment, providing excellent guidance for him and his students. Toby’s “Hi-Five!” is at receiving at least one laugh or smile from each student before they walk out.

Steve is dedicated to providing exceptional educational support that is tailored to each student’s unique needs. He holds an M.A. from Midwestern Theological Seminary while also serving in various educational roles. His mission is to foster a nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment where students can thrive academically and personally. Steve’s commitment to education is evident in his personalized approach, as he focuses on building confidence and competence in each learner.

Kenny received his B.A. in Rhetoric from UC Berkeley. He also has completed one year of law school at Chapman Fowler School of Law. His experience includes teaching supplemental math courses in statistics, probability, and college algebra at Santiago Canyon College. On top of that, he also has independently tutored in various math concepts. Kenny works to motivate students to learn by relating the material to their likes and interests, particularly with his favorite saying, “Math is fun!” In his free time, he can be spotted at the movie theater, a music show, or on the golf course!

Ryan is completing his Computer Engineering degree within the next few months. In the past, he has privately tutored across all types of grade levels, including K-12 & College students. His main subjects of note are all levels of math, science courses, and K-8 ELA. His current hobbies include building wooden models, simulating robots, and self-learning. Ryan’s goal is to provide an engaging and entertaining educational experience for every student who comes in.

Sandeep M

Executive Director

Sandeep is our Executive Director and has a life-long passion for helping kids achieve academic success.  As Executive Director, Sandeep works closely with the Center Director & Director of Education to ensure all students get the best education possible.

As an Indian-American immigrant and descendant of two teachers—his father and grandmother. Malik’s own professional background is in I.T business, but his passion for education led him to this industry.

Sandeep feels that education is the key to building a better future and believes education is everything. It inspires the next generation, it changes the community, and it really makes a difference.

While not at Sylvan, He enjoys spending time with his wife & 3 kids, cooking, gardening, playing badminton with friends.  He loves to travel.
