Julien is a passionate and experienced math and physics educator with a strong academic foundation, holding a Cum Laude bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics from Beloit College. With several years of hands-on tutoring and teaching experience—ranging from college-level support to high school summer instruction in subjects like algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, AP calculus, and SAT/ACT prep—Julien brings both depth and clarity to math instruction. His work is grounded in strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and a talent for making complex concepts accessible, honed through research presentations and interdisciplinary projects. In his free time, Julien especially enjoys reading and playing strategy games.

Ken Situ
Center Director
Ken is an experienced, results-oriented manager who brings a passion for education to his role of Center Director. His leadership style is shaped by his strong commitment to customer service and student growth. Ken manages our complex schedule, ensuring the best possible student-tutor matches, and oversees Center operations with a sharp focus on quality improvement. Ken earned a BA in Philosophy and Religion from SFSU. When not at Sylvan, Ken enjoys reading, meditating, drinking tea, and gardening. Ken is conversational in both Cantonese and Mandarin.

Lori Livingston
Executive Director
Lori brings a passion for education and a background in executive management to Sylvan Learning of SF. She has held management positions at Apple Computer and Fidelity Investments, and previously served two terms on her local public school board. Lori has raised four sons, each one benefiting from the individualized support they received to reach their academic potential. She focuses on ensuring a center culture of excellence that allows Sylvan students to have fun and build confidence while reaching their academic goals. She also finds great satisfaction in supporting the professional development of Sylvan team members. Lori is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University and a Harvard Business School alumna. She is an avid skier, golfer, hiker, biker and reader.

Donald Livingston
Director/Business Manager
Donald manages our center business functions and helps oversee center staff. He gets to know Sylvan students by conducting many of our Sylvan Insight Assessments. He also conferences with parents to make personalized tutoring program recommendations that help students reach their academic goals. Donald’s patient and empathetic demeanor, analytical prowess and service orientation contribute to the successful operations of Sylvan Learning of SF. He is a Stanford alum, an avid SF Bay Area sports fan, and an expert chess player. A Bay Area native, Donald resides in San Francisco.

Alejandra Arredondo
Education Program Manager
Alejandra started out at Sylvan as our Teaching Assistant, where she did a superb job keeping the center’s instructional floor running smoothly. She is now a member of our full-time team where she serves as Education Program Manager, supporting students, tutors and families and handling educational administration duties. Alejandra holds a BA in Psychology from Sonoma State and is working towards her Masters in Library and Information Sciences at SJSU. Alejandra’s brings a positive, flexible, and engaging approach to all of her work with students, families, tutors and team members. In her leisure time, Alejandra enjoys reading, hiking, running, and sampling Mission-style burritos!

Chloe O'Keefe
Education Program Manager
Chloe joined Sylvan as a literacy tutor and is now a member of our full-time team where she serves as Education Program Manager. In this role, she supports students, tutors and families and handles educational administration duties. Chloe is Lowell High School alum and a Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude graduate of the University of Washington. At UW, she worked as a Writing Center Tutor, guiding students to become more confident, capable writers. She has also worked with SF middle school students as an AmeriCorps member, coordinating mentoring programs to build academic and social-emotional skills. Chloe brings a strong background in mental wellness as well as education to her work at Sylvan. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, video games, and hosting tea parties.

Caitlin McCoy
Office Assistant
Caitlin brings a strong academic foundation as well as excellent administrative, communication and customer service skills to her work as our center’s Office Assistant. When you enter our center, that’s Caitlin saying hello at the front desk! Caitlin graduated from Lowell High School and went on to earn a B.S. in Psychology with a specialization in Cognitive Psychology at UCSD. At UCSD, she served as an Instructional Assistant, mentoring students and supporting faculty, and also supported students in her role as a Residential Community Organizer. Caitlin is committed to providing excellent customer service for all Sylvan students and families.

Pasutorn Chinwanno
Teaching Assistant
Pasutorn is our center’s Teaching Assistant, working to support tutors and students while keeping our instructional floor running smoothly. With a B.A. in Communication Studies from SFSU and a strong foundation in critical thinking and interpersonal communication, Pasutorn brings both academic and practical strengths to his role. He has direct experience tutoring students, helping them with homework, study strategies, and building academic confidence. He also contributes some additional language skills to our center team as he speaks both fluent Thai and conversational Japanese!

Dana Sargenti
Tutor and Instructional Manager
Dana is an expert reading, writing, math and HSPT tutor and also supports our Saturday team as Instructional Manager. Dana is a teacher and Assistant Principal with the Bay Area Archdiocese Elementary Schools. She graduated with a Physical Education Degree and completed credential coursework at SFSU. When not teaching at Sylvan or in her classroom, Dana enjoys reading, playing tennis, and yoga.

Chloe Caneday
Tutor
Chloe’s educational and professional background is a great fit for our reading and writing students. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from San Francisco State University with a BA in English Literature and a minor in Classics, and is currently pursuing her Master’s in English Literature at SFSU. Her prior experience as a gymnastics coach makes her a pro at engaging children in dynamic learning environments like Sylvan. Friendly, personable, and approachable, Chloe is committed to fostering a positive and enriching educational experience for her students. In her spare time, she loves to read, write, and explore the city.

Cheyenne Garretson
Tutor
Cheyenne is an experienced reading, math, and writing tutor with a strong academic foundation in the sciences and education, and a proven ability to connect with students of all backgrounds. She studied Biochemistry and Cell Biology at UC San Diego and earned a BA in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Hawaiʻi. Cheyenne is currently pursuing an MS in Clinical and Epidemiological Research at UC San Francisco. Formerly Head Instructor at The Tutoring Center in Honolulu, she is skilled at motivating students through positive encouragement and reinforcement, helping them build confidence and achieve academic success. We are excited to welcome Cheyenne to San Francisco and thrilled to have her on our tutoring team!

Lorna Probasco
Tutor
Lorna is one of our skilled literacy tutors, teaching reading and writing to our Sylvan students. She was a super star student herself, graduating cum laude with both a BA in Global Studies from St. Edward’s University and a Bachelor of Social Science in International Relations from Asia Pacific University. Lorna taught English when studying in Japan and worked as substitute teacher in El Paso before starting a master’s program in Asia Pacific Studies from USF. Fun fact: Lorna’s father was a Sylvan tutor when she was growing up! In her spare time, Lorna loves to cook, take film photographs and explore the city.

Lauryn Snyder
Tutor
Lauryn is one of our superstar math, science, HSPT, SAT and ACT tutors. She holds a Bachelor’s in Physics from Moravian College and is currently earning her Masters in Physics at SFSU. Lauryn has worked as a teaching assistant both at the college and graduate student level. She has also worked with younger students, doing science demos for elementary students through her college Physics Club. In addition to being an expert in math and science, Lauryn loves to read and knows sign language, too!

Daniella Alaverlo
Tutor
Daniella is an experienced language arts tutor who helps Sylvan students of all ages build skills in writing and reading. Her tutoring sessions foster confidence, creativity, and critical thinking in a supportive and engaging environment. A dual-degree graduate from Georgetown University in Linguistics and English, Daniella completed senior honors theses for both degrees. She has extensive tutoring experience, including supporting college students at Georgetown University’s Writing Center and working with elementary and middle school students at 826 Valencia in San Francisco. In her spare time, Daniella enjoys reading and going on walks to explore the city.

Alex Roznovsky
Tutor
Alex is a dedicated and engaging tutor with a strong academic background and experience working with students in enrichment settings. A Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude graduate of UCLA, he earned his B.A. in Linguistics with a minor in Geography. Alex served as a Senior Resident Assistant at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth, where he supported and mentored advanced middle and high school students in a residential learning environment. Known for his patience, communication skills, and enthusiasm for learning, Alex brings curiosity and creativity to his tutoring. A San Francisco native and alum of Galileo High School, Alex enjoys trivia, crossword puzzles, and taking long walks around the city with friends.

Julie Wells
Tutor
Julie has been a valued tutor at Sylvan of San Francisco for over 10 years! With her bachelors in French, a minor in ESL and her teaching credential from San Jose State, Julie is a skilled tutor in reading, elementary math, writing and study skills. Our students and team love her! She works with special needs students at a high school in San Francisco and has experience teaching languages at schools in Brentwood and San Jose as well. When Julie is not teaching, you’ll find her reading or listening to classic rock.

Sarah Evenson
Tutor
With her strong academic background and approachable teaching style, Sarah makes math engaging and accessible for Sylvan students. Sarah earned her B.S. in Physics with a minor in Music from UCSB and later completed a Data Science Certificate at UC Berkeley Extension. She discovered her passion for teaching at UCSB, where she worked as a Learning Assistant guiding group discussions and supporting students in problem solving. She has also mentored and trained others in her professional roles, bringing patience, encouragement, and clear communication to every interaction. A SF native, Sarah also loves the mountains and especially enjoys camping, hiking and backpacking.

Grace Casserly
Tutor
A lifelong avid reader, Grace brings both passion and skill to helping students strengthen their literacy. Grace earned a B.A. in English from Santa Clara after attending St. Ignatius College Prep in SF. She has hands-on teaching experience leading students in classroom activities through the SproutUp! youth program. Her background in creative writing, peer editing, and academic analysis equips her to support students of all ages. Grace even enjoys standardized tests and is skilled at helping students approach them with confidence.. Grace’s favorite leisure activities include reading manga, playing video games, doing yoga and baking with friends.

Ian Doyle
Tutor
Ian enjoys helping students strengthen their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills through curiosity-driven learning. A UCSC graduate with a B.A. in History, Ian earned multiple awards for excellence in research and writing, including the UCSC Chancellor’s Undergraduate Award and the UCSC Deans’ Undergraduate Award. He has experience creating high school curriculum materials, mentoring student interns, and leading educational initiatives through the Watsonville Is in the Heart community archive project. Ian also developed his teaching skills as an Explainer at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, where he facilitated hands-on learning for visitors of all ages. In his spare time, Ian loves to play music and read.

Rahil Shaker

Rahil loves solving math problems and ignites our students’ enthusiasm for math. She is currently enrolled in the nursing program at USF. Rahil previously received three associates degrees at West Los Angeles College, where she distinguished herself in math and the health sciences. In her spare time, Rahil loves reading, hiking, baking and spending time with friends.

Boone Mayer
Tutor
Boone brings a strong language and literacy background to his work as reading, writing and history tutor at Sylvan. He holds a B.A. in Intensive History from UC Santa Cruz, graduating cum laude with consistent Dean’s Honors recognition. His tutoring experience includes providing one-on-one and group instruction at the college level, where he developed interactive lesson plans to boost engagement and comprehension. Boone’s additional experience teaching chess to elementary students and working in high-pressure customer service roles demonstrates his ability to manage classrooms, communicate effectively, and adapt to diverse learners—key skills for supporting our Sylvan language arts students!

Scott He
Tutor
Scott draws on his impressive academic background to provide expert math and science tutoring for Sylvan students. He graduated from Lowell High School and went on to earn a dual B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, all from UCSD. His studies have included chemistry, physics and high level mathematics. As a Teaching Assistant at UCSD, he supported students through office hours, grading, and project help. Scott’s strong technical background and clear communication skills make him well-suited to support and motivate students seeking math and science tutoring.

Keyur is a thoughtful and engaging tutor with a strong foundation in mathematics and economics. A dual-degree graduate from UC Davis, he earned a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a B.A. in Economics. Keyur believes that mathematics isn’t always intuitive, so he approaches each topic in a way that makes concepts clear and accessible. He enjoys connecting lessons to real-world examples and sharing the fun, memorable parts of math to help students stay curious and confident in their learning. In his spare time, Keyur enjoys playing the harmonica, visiting museums, and spending time with friends.

Brian Li
Tutor
Brian brings both a strong technical background and youth mentoring experience to his work as a Sylvan math tutor. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Neuroscience from UC Davis, where he maintained a 3.7 GPA. He has presented his academic work at academic conferences and contributed to interdisciplinary projects that combine neuroscience and AI. In addition to his technical expertise, Brian served as a mentor with UC Davis’s Mentor Collective, providing peer support and guidance—demonstrating his commitment to helping others learn and grow. His communication skills, growth mindset, and multilingual abilities make him a valued member of our tutoring team.
