Fran Dyer
Franchise Owner
Fran Dyer, owner of Sylvan Learning Center, has loved working in the Centers for the past 25 years. It has been a fabulously rewarding career meeting with parents, classroom teachers, and or course, the students. While Fran’s career in Public Education encompasses teaching students at the Junior High level, Sylvan has provided her the opportunity to work with students from Kindergarten through High School. Sylvan has an excellent program and provided success for students at every level. Fran has both a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters Degree.
Jim Dyer
Franchise Owner
Jim Dyer, owner of 9 Sylvan Learning Centers, spent 30 years in California Public Education. He taught high school for 8 years and was a Junior High Principal for 24 years. Jim has also taught Junior College classes in Speech and worked with Chapman University in the teacher credentialing department for the Inland Empire. In 2001 Jim began working extensively with the Sylvan Learning Centers. The best part of Sylvan for Jim is the same as it was working in Public Education….working with students and parents! Jim earned both his Bachelor of Arts and his Masters Degrees from Whittier College, Whittier, California.
Carli Ganet
Executive Director - Franchise Owner
Carli Ganet is the Executive Director and Co-Owner of the 11 Sylvan Learning Centers owned by Jim and Fran Dyer. Carli received her Bachelors of Arts and Teaching Credential at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Carli began her career with Sylvan as a student in the Rancho Cucamonga Sylvan Learning Center. She has been a Director of Education, Center Director and currently oversees the educational programs of Sylvan students as well as working with Directors and Parents. She loves working with Sylvan families!
Paul Lay
Center Director
Director
Paul is an experienced executive with over 25 years of experience in aviation training and operations. As Center Director Paul oversees all activities of the learning center’s operations and is responsible for holding the Center to the highest standards in delivery of their educational programs. He works in close collaboration with instructors, parents, teachers and other school personnel to ensure each student’s success.
Sara Snuggerud
Director of Education
Director
Sara enjoys being the Director of Education at the Redlands Sylvan Learning Center. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in US and UK Relations from California State University, Fullerton. She also has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Sara loves helping and guiding students along their educational journeys. Sara enjoys seeing students light up when their math and reading improves. Sara feels the academic programs and technology, with the use of iPad implementation at Sylvan, are directly linked to current academic standards. She also feels the students are always engaged and interested in their learning at Sylvan.
Lisa White
Director of Business Development
Lisa White has worked for Sylvan Learning for close to 10 years as Director of Business Development. Prior, Lisa spent 19 years in the non profit/social services arena managing programs and services for high risk, disabled, and culturally diverse populations. Lisa earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Antioch University and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Pacific Southern University. Lisa has always been actively involved in her children’s school; serving as an E3 Foundation Board Member, PTA Board Member, and School Site Council Member at the Etiwanda School District. Lisa enjoys representing Sylvan throughout the community and actively engaging in networking events and business development groups. She feels that her career experience and passion for education helps to ensure that all students are afforded educational opportunities that foster growth and development. “ I am passionate about academic excellence and enjoy working in a vibrant student learning environment where students are supported and celebrated.”
Taryn Hartman
Director of Media Marketing
Taryn is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and Human Resources. As a former Center Director and Regional Director, Taryn comes to this position with a love for Sylvan Learning Centers.
Taryn is a mother to 4 handsome boys. When not working you will find Taryn at the soccer fields or at the grocery store.
Melissa Daugherty
Director Assistant
Melissa is a vital part of our Sylvan staff! She has a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subjects Credential. Melissa also has extensive experience working as a substitute teacher in both the Cucamonga and Upland School Districts. Melissa enjoys working at Sylvan because she gets to see the students’ happiness when they understand a concept that has been challenging them.
Monica Mejia
Tutor
Monica has over 20 years of teaching experience at the elementary level. She earned her Bachelorette of Arts degree in Liberal Studies and her teaching credential from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA. Her expertise is tutoring reading and elementary math. Monica enjoys helping students learn the fundamentals of reading and math and seeing the confidence the students get when everything begins to click. She hopes to instill a love for learning. When Monica is not at Sylvan, you’ll find her exercising at the YMCA or enjoying a good book.
Amanda Nelson
Tutor
Amanda works as a tutor for the Sylvan Learning Center in Redlands, CA and has a gift for working with kids. She has special expertise in tutoring reading, writing, and math, but enjoys tutoring math the most. Amanda is friendly and kind and has a great ability to relate to kids. She studied at Cal State San Bernardino for her BA in Mathematics, and she is currently working on getting her teaching credential at the University of Phoenix. Amanda also works in Colton, as a substitute teacher. When Amanda isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading books or watching dogs.
Katherine Berg
Tutor
Katherine has been a tutor at the Sylvan Learning of Redlands since 2018. Prior to working at Sylvan, she has worked at the Sylvan in Moreno Valley and Oceanside which adds up to 15 years with Sylvan Learning Centers! She is a graduate from Pacific Coast Baptist College (San Dimas, CA) where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She has been teaching for over 40 years as well as tutoring. Katherine enjoys working closely with her students, relating to them, understanding where they are at, and assisting them on their journey of success. When Katherine is not teaching or at Sylvan, you will find her interacting and spending lots of time with her two grandchildren.
Aubrey Harlev
Tutor
Aubrey received her Bachelor’s degree in English literature from Cal State University San Bernardino. She completed her Master’s degree and teaching credential from Grand Canyon University. She is a current tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center in Redlands and a substitute teacher for Riverside Unified School District. During her free time, she enjoys crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, and binge-watching movies.
Kristina Brook
Tutor
Kristina Brook, MA has worked at the Sylvan Learning Center in Redlands, California since May 2023. Ms. Brook earned her master of arts degree in Educational Psychology from California State University, Northridge. She earned her teaching credential from the University of Redlands. She is certificated by the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing as an education specialist for students with special education needs and earned certification in the area of autism. Ms. Brook especially likes teaching elementary-aged children in the area of early reading skills, phonemic awareness, fluency, and reading comprehension. She also enjoys teaching mathematics. In her free time, Ms. Brook plays keyboards in the Joshua Tree Philharmonic.
Hector Buenrostro
Tutor
Hector is a tutor for the Sylvan Learning Center in Redlands. He is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, where he obtained a degree in Sociology and in American Studies. Previous to Sylvan, Hector was a teacher for San Bernardino City Unified School District where he taught 7th and 11th grade. Hector enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas including ELA and history. In his free time, Hector enjoys hiking.
Guy Hensley
Tutor
Guy comes to the Sylvan Learning Center of Redlands with over 25+ years of teaching experience. Mr. Hensley has taught all grade levels with a majority of his teaching career in middle school. He has taught all core level subjects and continues to expand his knowledge and teaching experience with different learning modalities including Sylvan Learning Center.
Savannah De La Cruz
Teacher Assistant
Savannah has worked at Sylvan of Redlands since February 2023. She is attending Chaffey College where she is working towards her degree in child development. She has experience working with children through other programs in the community and districts. She enjoys teaching various subject areas with a main focus in reading and writing education. In her free time, Savannah finds joy in traveling and spending time with her friends and family.
Steven Hurtado
Tutor
Steven has worked at Sylvan of Redlands since August of 2023. He graduated from Cal State San Bernardino where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Steven is also currently working at Rialto High School as an RSP teacher. Steven enjoys teaching a variety of subjects including math and ELA. During his free time, Steven enjoys traveling to Japan, going to the gym, and attending Dodger games.
