Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Los Altos & Mountain View know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Vincent Zhang
Center Director
Director
As Center Director, Vincent leads management and operations for Sylvan of Mountain View. Vincent is a former laser physicist and specialized in optical system design. He was also a radio host in the Bay Area to host educational and sports programs. Vincent used to teach top engineers from companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft and NASA to use professional optical design software. As a father of 4 lovely children, he has strong faith and passion in education which lead to his path at Sylvan.

Cindy Sue
Instructor
Cindy holds a BA in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Santa Clara University. Before she joined Sylvan Mountain View in 2017, she taught in Los Altos private school for 7 years and she was also a K-12 substitute teacher for Harker Schools for 5 years. Cindy has been teaching for 20 years and was also an adoption social worker for the county. Cindy loves being a teacher at Sylvan and enjoys teaching reading and writing.

Anthony Hoang
Instructor
Anthony grew up in Sunnyvale and graduated from nearby Fremont High School before attending UC Santa Barbara to study computer science. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from UCSB, he worked in various software roles before joining Sylvan Learning Center in Mountain View as a tutor in 2024. He enjoys teaching math and science. In his spare time, he often plays pickleball or badminton.

Alexander Valdes
Instructor
Director
Alex grew up nearby in Sunnyvale and graduated from Northwestern University, where he obtained a major in neuroscience and a minor in philosophy. He joined Sylvan Mountain View in 2025, where he enjoys teaching reading, writing, and math. In his free time, Alex likes playing piano, producing music, and rock climbing. He is also currently applying to medical school.

Sabrina Rumford
Instructor
Sabrina attended college in Kentucky and earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Business Administration. She joined Sylvan Mountain View in May 2025. When her youngest child started middle school, she embarked on her second career as an educator. Since 2018, she has supported elementary school students in achieving their academic goals in both public and private school environments. Reading and writing are her favorite subjects to teach. Presently, Sabrina is a Resource Specialist paraeducator at Millikin Basics + Elementary, a Santa Clara Unified School District 2020 and 2023 California Distinguished School. In her spare time, Sabrina enjoys reading, exercising, and attending theatre and classical music performances with her husband.

Liping Cai
Instructor
Dr. Liping Cai obtained his Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. at Northeast Forestry University, China. He was a research scientist in Canada for 13 years before joining the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of North Texas where he worked as a researcher & adjunct professor until 2022. He taught classes like Advanced Engineering Math, Advanced Experimental Design and Analysis, and Statistics. He also carried out many research projects using machine learning, machine vision, simulation, and prediction in civil and mechanical areas. He published 200+ papers in scientific journals. Liping likes tutoring Mathematics, SAT/ACT math, AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Statistics.

Miles Davis
Instructor
Miles currently is working towards his M.S. in Physics at UC Santa Cruz, where he focuses on particle physics research and advanced sensor characterization and development. Miles joined Sylvan Mountain View in 2025. He is passionate about helping students understand complex mathematical concepts by making connections to real-world applications. Outside of academics, he enjoys staying active. You’ll often find him playing basketball, spending time outdoors, or working on personal projects that keep me learning.

Usha Ramani
Instructor
Usha has a Master’s Degree in English and Education from a reputed University in India. With a Clear Single Subject (English) teaching credential from California, she has worked in both private and public schools in CA. Being warm and caring she loves to inspire her students to improve academically and be confident. Usha is passionate about teaching and she loves working at Sylvan because the program is research based and tailored to the unique needs of individual students.
