Meet Our Team

Amiri Boykin is a Birmingham native with over 12 years of business administration experience working within education and arts enrichment organizations.
He graduated from the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in 2010 and completed his undergraduate degree at Rice University in 2015 with a BFA in Visual and Dramatic Arts: Film and Photography.

Amiri began tutoring in 2015, working with middle and high school students preparing for the ACT and SAT at TestMasters, Inc. Since then, he has led courses, developed curriculum, and trained tutors and proctors for several education enrichment companies including TestMasters, Accelerate Learning, StudyPoint, PrepNow, and Sylvan Learning.

Danielle Brown

Director

Danielle Brown began tutoring in high school and has always had a passion for helping students reach their full potential. As an undergraduate, she became a tutor with Teach for America at Georgia Tech. She graduated from the University of Alabama, at Birmingham with a BA in Psychology in 2018 and a BS Chemistry in 2023. She plans to continue her passion by studying Developmental Psychology.

Dorothy “Miss Dot” Vineyard has been with Sylvan Learning across various roles since 1995. She earned a BS in Mathematics from the University of Alabama in Mathematics, and an MA in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from the University of Alabama, at Birmingham.

Miss Dot looks forward to each session because she gets such joy when students have that moment when the light bulb clicks on, and they finally understand a concept that has been slowing their progress.

Miss Dot taught Mathematics, English, and Computer Science at Huffman High School. Her experience includes teaching courses at various levels including remedial, basic, regular, honors and Advanced Placement.

Brandi Mack

Instructor

Brandi Mack is a graduate of Tarrant High School where she graduated as Class Salutatorian. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Management from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. After high school, she attended Jefferson State Community College where she earned an Associate of Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration.

Ms. Mack grew up in a family of educator, including her mother Cynthia Hurd Threatt and sister Kimberly Threatt Myers, a former Sylvan Instructor.

Ms. Mack is a Certified Sylvan Instructor in Mathematics and Reading, whose goal is to inspire the next generation in achieving their academic goals.

Rochelle Johnson earned her BS in Early Childhood Education from Alabama State University. Ms. Rochelle Johnson retired from Birmingham City Schools after 29 years of service in 2009. She taught students from K-5. Ms. Rochelle started her career at Sylvan Learning Center 12 years ago serving in all capacities as a tutor, teacher and interim center director. Rochelle Johnson is a dedicated hard worker, team player and committed to teaching students.
