Meet Our Team

Deby Mowlah

Director

As Center Director, Deby leads community outreach and operations for
Sylvan of Pickering/Ajax. She chose a career in the tutoring business
because she wanted to make a difference in children’s lives. She studied at
the Loreto Convent so to pursue a career at the Prime Minister’s
Office and finally at the Ministry of Education for 12 years before coming to
Canada. When Deby isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her with a good French book.

En tant que directrice du centre, Deby dirige les activités de sensibilisation et les opérations communautaires pour Sylvan de Pickering/Ajax. Elle a choisi une carrière dans l’enseignement parce qu’elle voulait faire une différence dans la vie des enfants. Elle a étudié au couvent de Loreto afin de poursuivre une carrière au bureau du premier ministre et enfin au ministère de l’Éducation pendant 12 ans avant de venir au Canada. Lorsque Deby n’est pas à Sylvan, vous la trouverez avec un bon livre de français ou dans la cuisine.

Chuck Bryksa, B.Ed., OCT Retired

Director of Education

Chuck has over 34 years of teaching experience with the Toronto District School Board, and is a retired OCT teacher. While he has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy teaching the Sylvan Academic Reading and Writing programs. He studied at University of Toronto’s Teachers College and at Queen’s University. In his free time, he enjoys going on motorcycle tours and reading books.

Sunil Chellappan Pillai

Tutor

Sunil is a dedicated professor with over 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics and Statistics in various countries. Sunil holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics, along with a SAS Certified Base Programmer for SAS 9 certification and a Postgraduate Certificate in College Teacher Training. He has served as a college principal and is currently a Professor at a Canadian community college, committed to fostering academic excellence and student success. When Sunil is not at Sylvan you will find him with a good book or in the kitchen helping.

Janelle Jeffers

Tutor

Janelle Jeffers is a tutor at the Sylvan Pickering/Ajax. She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education with an
emphasis in Language Arts from Andrews University in Michigan. She also has a M.A. in Curriculum and
Instruction from the University of the Southern Caribbean. Janelle has 11 years of teaching experience in
the public and private sector and worked as a Teaching Principal at a private school in Windsor, Ontario.
She has a TEFL Certificate with the University of Toronto and is currently a registered member of the
Ontario College of Teachers. She believes that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure,
caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally and intellectually. When
Janelle isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her teaching her Grade 3M4 class, at the gym or volunteering her
services.

Lakshmipriya Jagadeesh

Tutor

Lakshmipriya Jagadeesh brings a dynamic blend of expertise and enthusiasm to her role as a tutor at
Sylvan Learning. With a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Anna
University, India, and a postgraduate certification in Data Analytics for Business Decision Making from
Durham College, Canada,  she combines analytical precision with a deep passion for education.
Lakshmipriya believes that learning is a journey, not a destination, and strives to make each step
enjoyable and rewarding for her students. Her teaching philosophy revolves around fostering curiosity,
building confidence, and empowering students to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Outside
of Sylvan, Lakshmipriya enjoys exploring innovative technologies, sharing laughter with her family, and
finding joy in giving back to her community through volunteer work.
