Don Small

Don Seebeck

Instructor

Don is an instructor at Sylvan Learning Centre, focusing on reading and writing, as well as English Language Arts and Social Studies homework support. He graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Arts (History) degree as well as a Bachelor of Education degree in 2017. He enjoys connecting with students and creating a fun learning environment. His goal is to help students build confidence in their understanding through the Sylvan program, and through one-on-one engagement. He believes that when a student has a place to ask questions and discuss the “why” and “how” of a topic, their skills grow and strengthen faster than they would through individual learning activities.

He has experience teaching students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and helping mature students reach their GED goals. With all his students he endeavours to discuss first, then let them practice the topic at hand. To him, discussion is a necessary part of understanding. It helps embed information better than reading or memorizing alone- that way the practice is a reinforcement of learning.
