Fauzia Akhter

Center Director (Subject Expert in Sciences; Chemistry and Biology)

Ms. Fauzia is the Centre Director of Sylvan Learning of Skyview Ranch NE. She is a certified science teacher in both Ontario and Alberta and is deeply passionate about helping students fall in love with learning. Science is her specialty, and she brings energy, curiosity, and encouragement into everything she teaches.

Although her strongest expertise is in high school Biology and Chemistry, Ms. Fauzia truly enjoys working with students of all ages. She believes every child can learn, grow, and succeed when they are supported the right way.

She holds a master’s degree in Zoology from an international university, a second master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Education (BEd). With over 12 years of teaching experience, she strongly believes that every child has a unique learning style. This belief is what drew her to Sylvan, where personalized learning is at the heart of everything they do.

Ms. Fauzia is dedicated to helping students grow academically while building confidence, character, and self-belief. Her Sylvan Learning center proudly serves Skyview, Cityscape, Redstone, Cornerstone, Coventry Hills and Harvest Hills, supporting students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with personalized instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, ELA, Social Studies, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (20 & 30 levels), including Alberta Diploma Exam preparation.

Her mission is simple. Help students succeed in school and feel confident in their abilities. Her vision goes beyond grades and test scores. Together with her Sylvan tutors team, she works to guide students toward their future goals, dream careers, and targeted university programs.

To support families even further, Ms. Fauzia offers free university admission application consultations, helping parents and students navigate the process with clarity, honesty, and personal guidance.

At Sylvan Skyview Ranch NE, learning is not just about academics. It is about building confidence, creating opportunities, and shaping strong, capable futures.

Outside of work, Ms. Fauzia is a devoted mom who loves spending time with her family. Whether they are at the library, the mall, exploring nature, or watching a 3D animated movie (especially Pixar films) at Cineplex, she truly cherishes every moment with them.

Ms. Reema is the Director of Education at Sylvan Learning of Skyview Ranch NE, bringing over six years of experience in Mathematics and Science instruction. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry along with a Bachelor of Education. Ms. Reema specializes in developing personalized learning plans aligned with the Alberta Curriculum. She is passionate about building structured learning plans, tracking student progress through data-driven assessments, and mentoring instructors to maintain high instructional standards.

When she’s not at Sylvan, Ms. Reema enjoys spending quality time with her family, exploring Calgary with her little one, and creating engaging learning materials. She is passionate about making education both structured and inspiring for every child.

Ken is an international student from Vietnam. He attended high school here in Canada, and is now an Engineering student at the University of Calgary.

When he first came to Canada, he noticed how difficult it was to study abroad, away from family and loved ones. This inspired him to dedicate some time to help students who have been in similar circumstances to his own. This is when he became a Teaching Assistant within the high school that he graduated from. Afterwards, Ken realized how much he loved teaching and helping other students. He looks to continue helping others to succeed in their studies.

When Ken is not at work, you can find him drawing, crocheting, and spending time with friends.

Kulwinder Kaur

Sylvan Tutor (English, Math and Chemistry)

Ms. Kulwinder is the Assistant Education Director. She is a dedicated educator with a passion for fostering deep understanding and curiosity in Chemistry, by integrating research into her teaching. She has extensive experience providing in-home tutoring to students from Grade 3 to Grade 12; as well as mentoring Bachelor’s and Master’s students in Chemistry research projects. Holding a Ph.D., a Master’s in Philosophy, and Master’s in Science, Kulwinder specializes in teaching organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical Chemistry. Additionally, she has experience teaching Mathematics.

Beyond academics, she enjoys learning new things, reading books, and dancing.

Kawaljeet Kaur

Sylvan Tutor (English and Math)

Kawaljeet is a dedicated and highly skilled Mathematics teacher with a Master’s degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. With 12 years of tutoring experience and 7 years of school teaching experience, she has a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and a passion for making learning engaging and accessible for students. Kawaljeet is committed to fostering a love for mathematics in her students, guiding them to academic success with patience, clarity, and enthusiasm.

When she’s not at Sylvan, Kawaljeet enjoys reading, cooking, and playing badminton.

Jyotsna Sood

Sylvan Tutor (English, Science and Chemistry)

Jyotsna is a confident and hardworking lady with a deep passion for teaching children. She believes in establishing a good rapport with children in order to shape them best for their future. Academically, she has a Bachelors of Education and Masters in Organic Chemistry back home in India. She landed here in Canada around 2.5 years before she completed her Education Assistant and Childcare Educator level 2 courses in Canada. She believes that learning is unstoppable! She worked at a coaching centre back home and was teaching Science, Math, and English from grade 8-12. Besides being a Sylvan tutor, she is working as an Educator in Preschool and Daycare.

In her free time, she loves to watch Indian movies and listen to music. Her motto of life is- “Enjoy your life, be happy, it’s all that matters”.
