Our tutors and staff in Calgary Southeast consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Calgary Southeast know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Alison
Centre Director
Director
As Centre Director, Alison spends most of her day meeting with parents and overseeing the educational integrity of our programs. As a former teacher in South Korea, Alison has a passion for teaching and connecting with youth. Alison is also an artist who loves to paint florals and nature scenes. She enjoys walks in nature, paddle boarding, and cross-country skiing.

Catherine
Director of Education
Catherine oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in S.E. Calgary. She has worked with Sylvan since 2013. A former High School Social Studies and English teacher, Catherine brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. She graduated from the University of Calgary. When Catherine isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, gaming, cross-stitching, and cheering for the Blue Jays!! She enjoys spending time with her husband John and their cat Stella.

May
Teacher
May started at Sylvan in September 2023 after spending time studying abroad in Japan. She recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education, specializing in English Language Learners/ESL, along with a minor in Japanese and a certificate in Mental Health and Resilience. Alongside her work at Sylvan, May is a substitute teacher with the CBE and CSSD school boards and hopes to one day teach in an ESL classroom full time. When she’s not teaching, she loves reading.

Catherine
Teacher
Catherine Ranger began working at Sylvan SE in August 2023. She brings a wealth of experience as a retired CBE teacher, having taught in regular classrooms from grades 3 to 6. In addition to her classroom teaching, Catherine has served as a learning leader and a literacy specialist, demonstrating her dedication to supporting student success. She is recognized for her compassion and patience as an educator.
Outside of her professional life, Catherine is a devoted wife and the mother of three grown children. Fitness is a priority for her; she attends daily gym classes, and also enjoys walking, cycling, and hiking. Catherine is also actively involved in her community as a volunteer with Girl Guides and Friends of Fish Creek. Through her varied interests and commitments, she continues to make a positive impact both in and out of the classroom.

April
Teacher
April started teaching at Sylvan Learning in 2022
She is a retired teacher with over 30 years of experience working with students with learning disabilities.
She enjoys teaching reading, writing and elementary math.
Outside of Sylvan, April enjoys the gym for gentle movement classes, hoping to gain better health and to feel more energetic.
Her family is very important to her. In 2021, she moved her mom to Calgary to live with her. Spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families is her greatest joy.
