Courtney Sunderland

My name is Courtney Sunderland. I have a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Calgary. I have been teaching at Sylvan Learning since 2023. I enjoy teaching at Sylvan Learning because I get to share my love of the English language and help students improve their grades and gain the confidence to succeed on their own.

Ken Coulton
Director
Ken is the Centre Director at Sylvan Learning Airdrie. He oversees family enquiries, assessment and test administration, personalised learning programmes (based on each student’s initial assessment), school–teacher liaison, ongoing progress monitoring, and parent conferences.
With more than 11 years of teaching experience, Ken joined Sylvan in 2014 and advanced from classroom teacher to Lead Teacher, Director of Education, and now Centre Director for the Sylvan Lake location.
An experienced tutor across all elementary subjects, Ken also focuses on high-school mathematics, with a particular commitment to Grade 9 mathematics, recognising that it sets students on their senior-high course streams. Families value his clear communication, practical guidance, and dedication to turning assessment insights into measurable progress.
Isabelle White

When a student asks a question, they are starting a journey of discovery. Helping them navigate that information, connect different concepts, and fuel their own curiosity has always been my main motivation for tutoring all grades and ages. I know that I can be a helpful, patient, and available resource—whether it’s for a quick fact check or a deep dive into a subject. Every student’s question is unique. By adapting my explanations, finding new examples, and structuring information differently to meet individual needs, I am constantly processing and refining my own cognitive plasticity and knowledge base. In a way, teaching is learning for me.
I have taught at Sylvan off and on since 2017.

Yumna Qureshi
Elementary English / Reading / Writing Instructor
My name is Yumna Qureshi, and I love tutoring at Sylvan Learning. I believe that a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment is paramount to an effective educational experience. For significant learning to occur, students need to feel empowered, affirmed, and respected. Sylvan Learning provides me with the tools and resources I need to give students the educational experience they deserve.
I am currently a university student at the University of Calgary in my fourth year (out of five). I am pursuing a BA in History and a BEd in Secondary Social Studies. At Sylvan Learning, I tutor writing, reading, and mathematics. I have been working with Sylvan Learning since September 2025. I look forward to my future at Sylvan and to tutoring many more students!
